During the 12 days Uganda primate tour, you will visit a chimpanzee sanctuary near Entebbe International Airport right from the start of your safari. You will visit several national parks among which include; Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and Lake Mburo National Park.

The trip will introduce you to primates such as golden monkeys, chimpanzees, and mountain gorillas. Taking on the amazing cultural tour will be a moment turned into a memory.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Ngamba Island and Chimpanzee Sanctuary tour

Chimpanzee Tracking in Uganda

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will take a boat to Ngamba Island and visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

This was put in place to rescue chimp orphans and conserve them for generations.

Lunch will be at any hotel around before you return to your lodge in Entebbe or Kampala city for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the long drive to Murchison Falls National Park.

You will enjoy exceptional Rhino tracking at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Lunch will be at a hotel in Masindi before heading to Murchison Falls National Park.

Upon arrival, check in to your earlier booked lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning game drive, afternoon boat cruise, and hike to the top of the falls

Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. You will see the big four animals namely; lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. There are other multiple animal and bird species to see in this park. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise on the Nile River for more wonders. The cruise will introduce you to crocodiles as well as hippos. This is in addition to many fish species. You will stop at the bottom of the falls and hike to the top of the falls. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park

After a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and start your journey to Kibale National Park – the home to chimpanzees. Lunch will be en route. Upon arrival, check in to your earlier-booked lodge for dinner and overnight in preparation for the following day.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi wetland tour

Chimpanzee Tracking in Uganda

This is a primate day on your 12 days Uganda primate tour. It starts with a delicious breakfast at your lodge. Go to the Visitors Center for briefing and start on the chimpanzee trek.

With the help of an experienced tour guide, you will meet the chimps. Spend an hour in their presence before returning to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will go for a walk in the Bigodi wetland area. Here, you will encounter several bird species as well as interact with the local members of the communities. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Visit Amabere Caves and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Amabere Caves. You will also hike to the top of the world and visit the Crater Lake area.

Lunch will be en route. Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise at Kazinga Channel

After breakfast, go for a game drive in the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The sector is home to elephants, gazelles, antelopes, and buffaloes. Return to your lodge for cooling and lunch break.

In the afternoon, you will take on a boat cruise at Kazinga Channel. This is the water body that connects Lake Edward to Lake George. You will see hippos and crocodiles roaming the waters. Visit the fishing grounds and interact with the local members of the community. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Morning Game drive in Ishasha Sector and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on an en-route game drive in the Ishasha sector of the park. This will allow you to spot the rare tree-climbing lions of Uganda on your 12 days Uganda primate tour.

Lunch and coffee tours will be along the way to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon arrival, check in to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and transfer to Kisoro

This is a special day on your 12-day Uganda primate tour. It starts with breakfast at your lodge followed by a briefing at the park headquarters.

You will enter the impenetrable forests of Bwindi in search of the mountain gorillas. The search for the mountain gorillas may take one to six hours depending on their location at the time. Therefore, packed lunch is recommended. Upon meeting a gorilla family, you will spend one hour in their presence. Return to your lodge for lunch and transfer to Kisoro district for Golden monkey tracking the following day. Dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Golden Monkey trekking and Batwa community tour

After breakfast, go to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park headquarters in Ntebeko for a briefing about golden monkey trekking. Compared to gorilla trekking, Golden monkey trekking is easier and thus will not be a tiresome adventure. Return to your lodge for lunch after the trek.

Go for the amazing Batwa community experience and learn the mysteries of ancient African cultures. Participate in their dances, brewing, and other daily chores. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and afternoon boat cruise

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Make a lunch stopover in Mbarara before taking on the boat cruise at the lake. While enjoying the boat cruise on Lake Mburo , you will get a chance to watch some water birds and several wildlife species as they come to drink water in the afternoon. In the evening, check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Morning game drive and transfer to Kampala – Departure

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and take on an extensive game drive in Lake Mburo National Park.

This tour will introduce you to the many zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, and several antelope species.
