Overview.
While on this 3-Day Chimpanzee Trek in Nyungwe National Park, travellers will be exposed to the beauty of the evergreen tropical rainforests of Nyungwe. They are a renowned habitat for a variety of primates and beautiful bird species that inhabit the ecosystems within.
Travellers on this safari will have the opportunity to explore the eye-catching flora and fauna. Visitors will indulge in chimpanzee trekking, colobus monkey trekking, and nature walks within the forest to ensure that they are fully immersed in the beauty of the raw power of the forest in its natural form.
Travellers will undertake canopy walks through the towering canopies of the rainforests, which will present opportunities for photography and videography. Guests will therefore have the opportunity to take photographs with primates up close.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1. Pick up from the hotel in Kigali, Transfer to Nyungwe National Park. Tea experience.
Have breakfast at sunrise. A professional tourist guide will then pick you up from the hotel to undertake the journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The journey will take you approximately 4 hours, covering the 177 kilometres.
On arrival in the National Park, you will explore around and later in the afternoon transfer to the lodging facility to check in and get served a delicious lunch.
You can head to the Gisakura tea estate on the outskirts of the National Park to learn about the key processes from the time it’s planted until it’s ready for consumption.
Enjoy the scenery at the area and indulge into photography and sightseeing. Travel back to the lodge at sunset. Dinner will be served to you after which you will be accommodated for the night.
Day 2. Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.

Guests will have early morning delicious meals at the lodging facility, as prepared by the team of professionals. Savour the meals and after get briefed by the Ranger guides. The Ranger guides will then accompany you to the jungle to help you trek with the chimpanzees.
This activity will go on for about two to four hours, and when you meet the families of the chimpanzees, you’ll be allowed a maximum of an hour to observe their behaviours and watch them interact with each other in their natural habitat. The activity will go on until late afternoon, when you will travel back to the lodge to get served lunch.
A canopy walk experience will come up next. Throughout this activity, the guests will observe the towering, attractive canopies of the rainforest and the diverse landscapes of the park.
Travellers will set their eyes on a handful of other primates that inhabit the forest, especially red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s’, blue monkeys, not forgetting birds.
Head back to the lodge at sunset to have dinner and an overnight rest.
Day 3. Colobus monkey trekking, head back to Kigali. Departure.

Have a mouth-watering breakfast at sunrise. Enjoy the meal in the golden hour as you view the sun rising over the tropical rainforest. After breakfast, you will then undertake an exploration of the forest in search for Columbus monkeys that are hosted in thousands in the forest.
The activity will keep you excited until midmorning, when you will travel back to the lodge to get served lunch. After lunch, check out of the lodge to undertake the journey back to Kigali.
The journey will take you about 4 hours covering the 177 kilometres. In Kigali, you will continue to the airport to get on board for the flights back home.
