3 Days Gorilla and Golden Monkey trek in Volcanoes National Park

Overview

Throughout the three days of this exciting safari,  travellers will explore the breathtaking beauty of Volcanoes National Park. Visitors on this trip will indulge in various activities to ensure that they get the most out of their safari especially the visits to the local markets, art galleries, walks in the forests that will enable them to view various forest inhabiting creatures and the visits to the homesteads of the indigenous Rwanda people.

This will not be only about the exploration of the beautiful places of Rwanda but also about learning more about the ways of life in African societies.  Travellers will have the opportunity to trek a section of the world’s only remaining mountain gorilla population not forgetting the golden monkeys.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1. City tour.  Head to Volcanoes National Park.

Pick up the guests from the hotel in Kigali and undertake a city exploration. Travellers will observe some of the most beautiful areas in Kigali. Visits will be launched to the Niyo art gallery. At the gallery,  travellers will have a view of the works of the gifted hands of the artists of Rwanda and also purchase souvenirs.

Travelers will visit Kimironko market to further get familiar with the Rwandan society, have a taste of the local the cuisine and fruits. The visit will go on until midday when you will travel to the hotel to get served at delicious lunch.

After the meal, you will then undertake the transfer journey to Volcanoes National Park which will consume about two to three hours covering the 109.4 kilometer distance. On arrival in the park, you will continue to the lodging facility and check in to unwind from the day’s activities.

Relish in the dreamy environment at the lodge as you view the magnificent volcanoes. A scrumptious dinner will be served to you at sunset and you will be accommodated for the night.

Day 2. Gorilla trekking. Iby’iwacu cultural village

Have breakfast in the wee hours of the morning.  After breakfast, you will then meet the Rangers of the National Park who will brief you about the exciting mountain gorilla tracking adventure. In this simple meeting, they will tell you about the do’s and don’ts amidst the mountain gorilla habitat and the giants themselves to keep you safe and the entire environment.

The Ranger guides will then accompany you to the forest trick the gorillas. The activity will go on for possibly four to five hours depending on the feeding patterns of the gorilla family and the speed of the trackers. You will be allowed a maximum of an hour to watch the gentle giants interact in their natural habitat when the family is met.

Travel back to the hotel after the exciting activity to get served a delicious lunch. After lunch, you will undertake the visit to Iby’iwacu cultural center where you will greet and interact with the indigenous Rwanda people.

You will get immersed into the beauty of their cultures and traditions as they entertain you the entire evening. Head back to the lodge at sundown to get served evening meals and have a night time rest.

Day 3. Golden monkey trekking.  Travel back to Kigali.

At the crack of dawn, guests will be served a delicious breakfast at the lodge. Enjoy the breakfast and after head to the jungle to meet the golden monkeys. The activity will be done under the guidance of Ranger guides who will help guide the tourists on their endeavours to meet the exciting primates.

Trek through the forest the entire morning and enjoy observing the golden monkeys and their behaviors in the natural habitat. Transfer back to the lodge at high noon to get served in mouth watering lunch.

After lunch, you will then undertake the drive back to Kigali which will take you about two to three hours covering the 109.4 kilometer distance.  Continue to the airport to get on board for the flights back home to end the safari.
